How to beat the bloat this ChristmasDec 02, 2022
We’re very close to the Christmas season and the excesses that can bring.
I get it… there’s a certain level of excitement when buying that indulgent food or drink.
But it probably means you’re going to be asking your body to do a lot more than it’s used to compared to the other 11 months of the year.
It can lead to bloating, which a lot of my clients have suffered from before.
It’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of because it’s really common… but it’s not normal.
Bloating is a way of your body telling you that it doesn’t like something that’s going on inside you.
It can happen at any time… if you’re in a particularly stressed state then your body might not be able to process some food that you would normally be able to digest without a problem.
But it’s a signal that your gut health is potentially not on point and you need to work out if there’s a common theme as to why you’re getting this reaction.
It maybe a different food to usual or just a particular fibre that you’ve digested. It could even be how that food has been farmed at different times of the year.
It’s definitely worth keeping a food diary and writing down how you feel after each meal. And you need to be honest with yourself once you review the results. If it's worse every time you consume dairy, then you may need to try a few weeks without it to confirm.
It could even be cranberry sauce causes a reaction (ok this is quite niche but you get what I'm saying).
You also may need to drink more water to aid digestion.
But it’s also worth looking at your routines… if you haven’t got consistency in certain aspects of your life then you’re doing yourself a disservice.
Waking up and going to sleep at the same time is so important if you want to maintain a level of health that can handle what modern life throws at it.
